Web Publishing Publishing on the Web allows your newsletter, newspaper, magazine or catalog to reach a worldwide audience without incurring costs of printing and circulation/fulfillment associated with traditional, offline publishing. How It Works In the development phase, we create a website -- either as a part of your existing site, or as a new, stand-alone site -- to house the publication. The publishing site will feature a navigation system for both the current issue and for retrieving past issues from an archive. After the Post development, You send us the articles and graphics in digital format -- which can mean word-processing documents with graphics in TIFF, jpeg or gif format, or Quark files containing the entire printed documents -- and we convert them into web-ready files. If past issues are archived, we post the current issue to the publishing site, while moving the existing issue into the archive, updating the links, etc. Programming Most publications are archived in chronological order, which can make finding information on specific topics time-consuming and difficult. To make the information in your publishing site readily available -- especially if you archive past issues -- we recommend adding a keyword search function. Search functions can be simple or very complex, depending on your needs. If your publication is fee-based, we can create an online subscription and user ID and password system. This system automates the process of setting up a subscription account and authenticating subscriptions each time a user logs in. It can be scaled to verify credit cards, check account status each time the subscriber logs in and notify subscribers when their subscriptions are about to expire. We can also set up an "email alert" system that notifies subscribers when new issues are published to the web -- including teasers with links to specific articles and features in the publishing website. |
